Re: How I got here
I was very good at a life that was not for me.
For seventeen years I worked inside the loudest industries there are. Music, sports, fashion, global brand campaigns. Migos and Lil Baby. My all-time favorite basketball player. I was in the room for a long time and rarely in the photo, because that was the job.
I have always been the connector. The one people call to be introduced to someone, or to find out where to go. So when I knew I wanted out of that life, the question was not what else I could do. It was how to do the same thing smarter, for more people, at a pace that let me live closer to my family and a lot closer to myself.
That became CC:. The idea came to me in Los Angeles, but I built it here in Charlotte, slowly, because I was doing two things at once: building a company and unwinding from a career spent at full volume. The quiet was never a break I took before the work. It ran underneath all of it.
My father, Edward Cousins, is the reason I understood that. We were sitting in recliners, holding hands, and he explained it to me. That I was capable of more than the life I was working so hard to keep, and that the version of it that felt better was also the version that would go further.
